About Egypt

Egypt is one of the most populous countries in Africa. The great majority of its estimated 80 million people live near the banks of the River Nile, in an area of about 40,000 square kilometers (15,000 sq mi), where the only arable agricultural land is found. The large areas of the Sahara Desert are sparsely inhabited. About half of Egypt's residents live in the densely-populated centers of greater Cairo, Alexandria and other major cities in the Nile Delta.

Egypt is famous for its ancient civilization and some of the world's most famous monuments, including the Giza pyramids complex (one of the oldest Seven Wonders of the Ancient World) and its Great Sphinx. Its ancient ruins, such as those of Memphis, Thebes, Karnak and the Valley of the Kings, are a significant focus of archaeological study. Many artifacts from these sites are now displayed in major museums around the world.

However, Egypt is much more than Pyramids and monuments. It is also Red Sea scuba diving, hot night spots, luxury hotels and five star restaurants. It is romantic cruises down the Nile on festive river boats, a night at the grand opera and it is a cultural experience like none of you have ever experienced. Egypt is a land bustling with life, sound, visual beauty and excitement.

Cairo – which is the capital of Egypt, and the 2nd largest city in Africa, and the Arab World - is an amazing city full of life and movement, and it is like that almost 24/7. In Cairo, Egyptians are most at home in this powerful, modern and ancient city.
